Jump Start Service in Amarillo TX
Dead battery in a parking lot? Car will not turn over after a hot Amarillo afternoon? A jump start is the cheapest call you can make and usually all you need. We carry industrial jump packs that turn over almost any vehicle, even with a battery that hand-held jumpers cannot move. Call 806-615-3601.
Why batteries die in Amarillo
Heat is the number one battery killer here. Once we hit 100-degree summer afternoons in May through September, batteries that limped through spring start dying in parking lots all over town. Heat causes the electrolyte inside a battery to evaporate. Even a 3-year-old battery can fail on a 110-degree day.
Cold kills them too. Winter mornings in Amarillo can hit single digits, and a cold engine takes more amps to crank. A weak battery that survived summer often dies on the first really cold morning of the year.
Other common causes:
- Dome light or headlights left on
- Phone charger or accessory pulling power overnight
- Long sit (vacation, stored vehicle) without a tender
- Bad alternator that has not been charging the battery properly
- Loose or corroded battery terminals
What our jump start service does
When you call 806-615-3601 for a jump start, we send a service truck with a heavy-duty jump pack. We hook it up the right way (positive to positive, negative to a ground point on the engine block, never to the negative terminal of a dead battery), turn over the engine, and watch the dash for warning lights.
If the car starts and runs steady: we tell you to drive at least 20–30 minutes before shutting it off so the alternator can charge the battery back up. Most cars are fine after that.
If the car starts but the alternator is not charging: the battery will die again as soon as you stop driving. We can tow you to a shop or auto parts store.
If the car will not start even with a strong jump: battery is probably toast or the starter is failing. We can tow you to AutoZone, O’Reilly, your dealer, or your mechanic.
Where we run jump start calls
Anywhere in Amarillo or the surrounding Panhandle. The most common spots:
- Walmart parking lots (Coulter, Soncy, the I-40 location)
- Office parks in Wolflin and downtown
- Apartment complexes in San Jacinto and Bivins
- The airport long-term lot
- Restaurants and grocery stores anywhere in town
Limits
There is one situation where we cannot jump-start on scene: parking garages with low ceilings where our service truck does not fit. In that case we can either bring portable equipment or tow the car out of the garage to a spot where we can work.
